...for a different kind of girl

silent surburban girl releasing her voice, not yet knowing what all she wants to say about her life and the things that make it spin. do you have to be 18 to be here? you'll know when i know.

when creativity goes 'a-fowl'

my boys think coloring easter eggs is akin to magic erasing the ceiling of the sistine chapel and starting over with a 64-count box of crayolas, some glitter and a few dyed feathers.

purely limitless.

so when the cheap egg dye i scrambled (heh...get it?) to pick up at target yesterday didn't go over easy (ohh! that's good! what? ok. i'll stop...geez...), out came the food coloring to enhance the beauty of what will ultimately end up being egg salad for my lunch over the next eight days.

in the end, they did a beautiful job, as always, so i decided to give the finished product a closer look while i had a moment to myself today. call it being overwhelmed by what a cup of cold water, some vinegar and a vegetable dye tablet could do, i slipped, dropping this masterpiece out of my fingers. it took a dive right onto the other eggs. how those 11 other lucky bastards came out unscathed, i'll never know.

but this one? yeah, i've tucked it back in the carton, cracked side down, so as not to alarm my junior jackson pollocks. tomorrow, i'll just tell them the easter bunny got so excited to see this one he dropped it while jumping up and down in bliss and then left them copious amounts of chocolate for me to sneak when they aren't looking.

should do the trick.

and then i'll be onto egg salad sandwich number one.

It's the effort that counts so the story goes, Happy Easter to you and your crew.

Okay.. so the comment had little to do with your post but eh.. I march to the beat of.... well I don't have a different drummer... had to fire that premadonna... to the beat of a different horn section..
Ska and old school jazz baby! Swing era stuff.... and it's not so much a march as a grooving swagger... maybe even a mosey or two...
Happy Easter none the less....

I'm the only one in my house that likes to decorate eggs. The boys claim they're "too old" (not sure what that makes me) so I did it solo this year. I put them in a strainer in the sink and dropped food color directly on them, mixing and swirling the colors. I let them sit for a moment, then rolled them around in the strainer and sprayed them off with water. They came out FABULOUS. I was thrilled with them considering I didn't have the time I usually take to decorate each one for half an hour at a time, but when we cracked a few of them open, YIKES! The eggs are very colorful to say the least...I'll have some very interesting potato salad this week!

Different Girl-- Those are some gnarly eggs. We dyed eggs for the first time this year. Due to my food coloring on the carpet phobia, I used to go with the plastic. BTW, my hubby wants to know if your hubby plays Guitar Hero on his PS2. World Rally Car II is my hubby's game of choice.

You are so crafty. My family dyed eggs while I made dinner on Friday evening. I didn't even get to do one. I cried just a little bit.

And props to you on the glittery nail polish. The full-size picture of this is so huge I think I could run your fingerprint off of it.

nocturnal - that right there, my friend, is my mantra. followed closely by "fake it until they figure you out."

nanette - at the very suggestion of sharing candy with you, i was pondering travelocity. then my husband was all, "um, yeah, so then what about all these reece's peanut butter eggs (ah..chuncks of deliciousness...) and hershey rabbits?" and before I knew it - chocolate daze!

savage - you speak in the delighful ramblings i am accustomed to for it's what i do most often. we shall swing dance, then, while you continue charming me with your bon mots...

art - the boys were so consumed with this "mini christmad" that easter has become, they didn't even notice the cracked eggs! however, it was the one i ate first!

stacie - two things - first: that's a good technique right there! i had read about taking a clean sponge and dropping food coloring on it and then running the eggs over it, but everyone here looked at me like i was some "artsy fartsy" girl at the suggestion!

second: potato salad...sigh...

he who deleted but who is not a mystery - thank you for the correction! heh! i knew it looked wrong everytime i came here...

rs - egg salad is on the lunch menu today. i make a pretty mean batch!

rug's - there is food coloring stains on my kitchen table right now, so that makes me oh, so very happy! we do the plastic eggs, too, for candy. neither option floats me, though! oh, and as for the PS2, it's use mostly falls under Lego Star Wars I and II, Black and a couple of others. We've had that thing two and a half years and I think I've got to play it 30 minutes. I had a dream, though, that I had bought Guitar Hero and was soon to be launching my world tour!

ftn - this craftiness you speak of is a facade! i tend to flit around the kitchen while this activity goes on, panicked at the mess it may result in!

and you should know, i'm crying a little bit at the idea of you making dinner. i want to see a man making dinner sometime. if you tell me you cleaned up afterward, too, i'm afraid i can't be responsible for what i may do next. especially in light of the the fact that you prop it out to me about the fingernails...

all in all, these close ups of my body parts are all just a means to allow you to complete that scale model...

We didn't get to color Easter Eggs this year, not that I don't mind a mess on the dinning room table. No one eats the hard boiled eggs, after Easter.

Great pictures though
